The case for a new state in the south east.
Is there a case to be made for an additional state in the south eastern region of Nigeria? The answer to that question is a resounding yes. The south east which many consider the area with most population density in the entire black world despite what the Nigerian census figures show, is the only region with the least number of states.... five to be exact. The reason for this imbalance defies all logic. Is it that our people have not pushed enough for a new state to be creating bringing the region at par with others or are we still being treated as a defeated people? What ever the reason, the time has come for us to stop beging for it and start demanding it as a right. We can no longer afford to sit on the fence and watch others determine our destiny. Do not tell me about the constitutional provisions regarding creation of states. We all know that, are our leaders blind to the fact that we have not been treated fairly in this regard or is it that those we elected or purported elected to serve in the national assemblely are not alive to their responsipilities? Are they putting their own selfish interest above that of the region once again as they always do? We can not sit idlely by and watch our own kins men play politics with an issue as crucial as this. We must all put heads together and come up with one viable state and make sure that people who think it's their God's given right to rule do not derail this effort. Many a time the bickering and back stabing coupled with distribution of posts and postions before the project becomes a realilty usually cost Ndigbo a lot. This time around talking about getting a new state is not enough, we must all come together as a people and demand whats rightfully ours. We have been in this predicament before and where did it get us? Instead of doing things like mature adults and getting the job done each senator or chief in every village will now start to agitate for a state to be created in his compound so that he can become governor. What shame! Ndigbo help your selves, do not let all these discredited politicians who know nothing but play games with your lives and well being come between you and seeking that which is right and justified. We shall be watching and reporting on the progress or lack of as we embark on this journey together.
