In as much as you believe that Chief Uwazurike is fighting a just war for the Ibos, some people believe that that’s not the case. Here is a piece that I read today, September 2, 2008 to the contrary. ROMANUS UGWU of Daily Sun had an interview with Eze Igbo of Ojodu Lagos, Chief Austin Ebisi and the next three paragraphs show what the traditional ruler had to say:
“A traditional ruler in Lagos has criticized the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and its struggle for the separation of the Igbo people from the entity called Nigeria, saying that the struggle will fizzle out in no time.”
The ruler in Lagos also quoted Ojukwu, the man who was at the helm of affairs of the Nigeria/Biafra war. He said: "When Ojukwu spoke about Biafra some times ago, he asked Ralph Uwazuruike why he is reviving this Biafra course. All he does was relying on the funds from international bodies, he has been able to buy their sympathy.”
Now here is the interesting part: “What about the headquarters Uwazuruike is building, has the followers taken time to look into the document to know the ownership of the headquarter? They keep calling it their headquarters but every document bears his personal name. He is trying to enrich himself pretending to be fighting our common course. He will soon lose all his members because I’m sure those arrested won’t want to continue following him sheepishly."
So, what do you make out of these comments above? Another point you raised that I didn’t quite agree was how peaceful his followers were. Men! I have been reading a lot of bad things that his followers do at Onitsha market and other parts of Anambra. Unfortunately, I can’t reference them now because I did not save copies of any of them. I will try and seach for it and see if I can get you something.
Let’s face the facts though – we fought a war thirty years ago and lost. Any Ibo man who had money in the bank was paid N20 then to start life from beginning, and we did. Today, the infrastructure in Nigeria is poor anywhere you go. Yes, some parts, especially the Ibo section are horrible. Who do you blame? Was it not your so called Ibo brother’s who were given the contracts and they ate the money and refuse to do the jobs? You should know them and yet they are at the helm of affairs in PDP and calling the shots.
Chief Uwazuruike can organize all he wants; however, you cannot get Biafra again in 2008 and in the future. If the Ibos separate today, the problem will be worst even. Our too much intelligence would not allow anyone to be ruled and there would be qualms all over the places. If Ralph really wants the memory of Biafra to linger for long, he should sell it to CBN Solude to shape the Naira to look like Biafra money. Of course, Mr. Solude better get his resume ready while doing that.
To conclude, Chief Uwazuruike should take his time and come out of jail and let the Biafra thing go. If he wants to continue organizing, he can study the OPC operations and implement a strategy of going after the Ibo representatives who refused to fight for the Ibos. I am tired of hearing about the Biafran war where my father was killed and we were left to suffer throughout the civil war. Thirty years later, we are still talking about it. Please give me a break!
thanks,
Paul.O
