The case of political prostitution in Ibo Land
One Igbo adage says "the fly that does not have an adviser usually follows the corpse to the grave". In recent times the question that has been on the lips of most people is "do politicians have convictions, or stand for any thing"? These days it is no long saying any thing to get elected its now going to where you will have the most chance to be elected even if it means dining with the devil. I am sure many observers have witnessed the flood of carpet crossing especially in Igbo land and I attribute this to the fact that unlike any other place politics in Igbo land has become an occupation like teaching, or nursing, the only difference is that you don't have to care about people you deal with or represent but your own selfish interest.
When Ohakim jumped ship earlier every one knew it was going to happen because he had no where else to go but down. We all know he is an opportunist who wanted to hold on to power at all costs including selling his own mother to the highest bidder. To this writer what does not make too much sense is the case of Theodore Orji, one of the least effective governors in the country. In my humble opinion he has committed a political suicide.
It is one thing to rig elections and manipulate figures to get elected and another to insult the heart and soul of your own people and think you can get away with it. When he was politically homeless he went begging the Ikemba Nnewi to shelter him as a prodigal son. Ojukwu and his party granted his request and how did he pay this man of honor back? "To hell with you and your party, I have now come back home where a second term ticket is assured". What amazes me is the fact that this same man fell out with his political godfather who won the election for him singlely while he was in detention. Granted Kalu is no saint neither are some of the politicians, but one thing you can not accuse that man of is being a political feather weight but governor Orji is. Thirty years after the civil war, the Igbo still remember the sufferings, the agony of defeat and the unhealed emotional scare from that war.
I am sure that despite all efforts that the PDP would put in place to make sure Orji is reselected, the hen does not forget who took care of her needs during the rainy season. My expectation is that come 2011 a man would be at the governmant house Umuahia and his name will not be Theodore Orji. For disgracing the Eze ndi Igbo, Orji should be thought a lesson in humilty at the ballot box, I trust Abia people to send him that message loud and clear. Igbo Kwenu!
