The President's health: Matters arising

Only in Nigeria can a president be missing in action for over two weeks and no one can give an accurate account of his were about. Nigerians were fed with lies after lies as to where the president was and what he was doing. While the rumor mills went wild it did not occure to either the government or the ruling party to let Nigerians in on there little secret that all was not well with the president. Published reports have shed light as to the scheming of the powers that be in the north to rape the constitution by using the supreme court. Matters arising: (1) Did the president inform his vice of his trip abroad for medical treatment? If so did he transfer the instrument of state power to the vice president? (2) Who was in charge of the country for seventeen days while the president was indisposed? (3) Why did the administration keep the country in the dark there by heating up the polity? These are questions that require immidiate and factual answers. I am unaware of any country in recent memory where such a rape on democracy has taken place. Nigerians for what ever reason have let this president get away with murder. The 1999 constitution is very clear on what should happen should the president becomes incapacitated. How come no one is following that same document that the president swore to uphold? Do we now have different rules for different calibers of public servants? Recently some commissioners of the Indipendent electoral commission were let go because they have attained the mandatory retirement age of sixty or have put in thirty five years of service. That will be follwing the rule of law only if it is applied uniformly. The sad part is that people who are political appointees do not follow the same route. If that is the case some one should explain to Nigerians the status of the INEC commissioners. Are they political appointees or civil servants? We need to know these facts. From all indications the present administration has not been fair to all geo political regions when it comes to sustaining federal character. It has not followed the spirit and letter of the contitution of the federal republic of Nigeria. It has not followed the contitution when it comes to appointments and it sure has not done so in the present saga with the president's health. The north may be scheming through what ever means at their disposal to deny the vice present his constitutional right to accend the presidency should any thing happens to the president, they should also know that they do not have monopoly on the right to fight to defend and up hold the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria. I sincerely hope that who ever is the brain behind this devilish affront to our collective intelligency should be prepard for the out come of his or their plans. The Nigeria/ Biafra war should still be very fresh in our minds. It is very easy to ignite and fan the embers of disunite . A stitch on time saves nine.
