Imo State and its governance

For indipendent observers and even some objective stakeholders the general concensus is that all is not well in Owerri. One does not need to look very far to see why the state of affairs in Imo has come down to one thing........ noise. Yes I said noise. Since the inception of the president administration all its achievements has been in the area of media propoganda. Imo state has taken the first place in media propadanda while there is nothing on the ground to match the rehotric. One school of thought is that the attention of the government has been directed towards legitimizing a mandate that is in question. That will be for another discussion. Be that as it may, after one year in office the people of Imo state should be in a position to point to at least one concrete thing that this administration has done. Oh I know one thing, inflated contracts for cabs and lets see, giving contracts to inlaws with no proven track record, thats your achievemnet right there.
I don't know where to begin, lets take the capital city of Owerri for instance, has any one been in Owerri when it rains? The entire town goes under water and no road is drivable. This is the seat of government. Charity they say begins at home. If the seat of government is this deplorable without any end in sight, then think of what other cities are going through. One does not win the hearts of the elctorate by planting stories in national dailes written by paid hacks. The secret of success is hard work and so far, as hard as the state government claims to work, its attention has been some where else.
Another canker warm is corruption in high places. From the top to the bottom Imo has proved to be on top of the ladder when it comes to corrupt practices. I am not going to lay the blame squarely on the door steps of this governemnt, it goes back to the Udenwa debacle when no one and I mean no bothered to question how he and his cronies sqandared the state's share of the federal allocation. Every thing that was supposed to go wrong went wrong. Take a look at the state secreterait built at a cost of billions of naira, the whole place is falling apart, every roof is leaking and you cant even drive in there when it rains, The paint on the walls have already peeled off and this was supposed to be is his crowning edifice? What concerns this writer most is the fact that prominate citizens of Imo partake in the looting of the state via dubious contract inflations and the legendry 10%.
Back to the present government, one is still at a loss at to what has happened to the federal revenue due to local governments. No matter the number of commissions of inquery set up by this administration, the conclusion, given its track record is that it's nothing but a water shade. The administration has been known to set up commisions to investigate one thing or another and yet none of the reports of the findings has ever seen the light of the day. Given that kind of record, no wonder the people of the state take any prouncements of the government with a grain of salt. The only hope that this writer and others who are sick and tired of being taken for a ride by those who claim to be elected to serve is that EFCC is still alive and well.
