The audasity of stupidity

Many a time Nigerians in this part of the world and even at home embark on initiatives that are noble and praise worthy. The problem is that once the funfare of the lunching of such an intiative dies down, politics takes over. This assertion is even more evident in the south eastern part of the country. Having lived abroad for over two decades now, I can say with some air of authority that I have witnessed this trend first hand. As any one who has followed my daily blod can attest to, I have maintained one thing which is the basic principle that gave birth to the idea of starting this blog, ...... saying it like it is and there by restoring the dignity of man. I will attempt to once again bring to lime light one issue that has been the down fall of Igbos. The insatiable desire to lead!. No one wants to be led, everyone wants to be a leader at all cost even if one does not possess the skills and qualities that leaders are made of.
A case in point is the World Ibo Congress (WIC). This was an idea born out of the desire to level the playing field and have a forum through which pressure can be brought to bear on the federal government or any other entity for that matter to pay attention to the sufferings of our people back home. As I mentioned above , this was an idea that was over due in implimentation. It started out well like any other one then as usual people began to see it as a spring board to lunch their political carrers. Even politicians at home got into the action sponsoring certain segments of the congress.
They even succeded in prading who is who in Ibo politics at one time or another. With time as with any other good initiative the curse of the Ibo man reared its ugly head once agian. The seed of discord was sown and things fell apart. As I write this commentry there are several emails being passed around insulting one another all in the name of who whats to be what. At times I ask my self especially in those moments when I tend to think aloud ( and I do that often) where are our elders? How come that its only the Ibos that air their dirty lundry in the open? How come that almost all regional associtions that have Igbo coloration in this country has failed due to infighting, disunity, distrust and and lack of respect for elders? As members of the congress head to Tampa FL. may I urge them to seize and desist from putting our name to shame and redicle. We have had enough of this bad blood. If you have nothing good to say about your brother then shut up. My hope is that most people who will surgon to Tampa do not end up in jail by the time its all over there by giving us yet another black eye. The disturbing aspect of this whole saga is that almost all the actors in this unending drama are well read. It is one thing to go through the four walls of a university and another for the university to go through you. In the name of all that is good please stop disgracing us. Remember none of you has a monopoly in the use of our name. At times like this one cries out for the elders to intevene, the problem is that most of the elders who could have cautioned their children have their hands in the cookie jar there by making it impossible to be seen as an indipendent arbiter. What would it take for all of you Phd holders who have nothing better to do than haul insults at one another to be civil? Time is running out and I bet you that histroy will not be kind to any of you who has done nothing but distroy the legacy of the Igbo nation. Stay tuned.
