Roman Catholic Reverend Father Stripped Naked In Public By Ohakim & His Men
The Ikedi Ohakim administration of Imo State presently finds itself caught between a rock and a hard place. A quagmire has taken hold in the executive offices of the Imo State government, and at the realm of what appears a lock-jam is the embattled governor of Imo State, Ikedi Ohakim. This is as ukpakareports.com has received confirmatory information that Governor Ikedi Ohakim recently ordered for the stripping of a Roman Catholic Reverend Father [Eustace Okorie] naked in public.
The incident was confirmed to ukpakareports.com by the Roman Catholic Arch Bishop of Owerri, Bishop Obinna.
At about 6pm on Sunday evening on the 8th of August 2010 Security Officials attached to Mr. Ikedi Ohakim arrested a man of God, Rev. Father Eustace Okorie for “allegedly” obstructing the convoy of Ikedi Ohakim. Ohakim’s boys accused the Catholic Priest of “intentionally” blocking the governor’s convoy with his NISSAN-INFINITY Saloon Car along Orie-Akabo Ikeduru L.G.A. of the state. And Rev. Father Eustace Okorie was immediately arrested and his car impounded. The Priest was taken to the office of the Chief Security Officer (CSO) to Ikedi Ohakim who after questioning and interrogating the Reverend, ordered that the priest be taken to the SSS office where he was detained from that Sunday evening 8th August 2010 till about 8:20am next day Monday 9th August 2010. While in detention the priest was denied communication with the outside world, and was forced to write statement.
Commenting on his ordeal [on Tuesday 10th August 2010], Rev-Father Eustace Okorie maintained that he parked his Saloon Car well in order not to enter a dangerous ditch. He equally disclosed that his side mirrors was completely smashed with gun and he was forced to join the convoy in a sports utility vehicle. The Rev. Father also said that he was going for his evening mass which was terminated and instead taken straight to the governor’s Chief Security Officer, interrogated before being detained in a detention cell with only his pants on.
To this end, the Catholic Arch Bishop of Owerri Bishop AJV Obinna on Tuesday 10th August 2010 addressed a press conference where he called on Human Rights groups in the country to wade into the matter. He added that “Every person should have due right in Nigeria. The deep anger of such behavior is reflective of what people are going through in Imo State”.
Interestingly, the Ohakim administration reacted to deny the incident, citing that it was a made up story by the detractors of the Imo State government. According to the Chief Press Secretary [CPS] to the Governor, Henry Ekpe [in talking to ukpakareports.com] “this is a baseless and useless rumor people tell me is being circulated by the opposition. Please do you believe such rubbish?” But the Mr. Ekpe was quick to change his denial when it was made known to him that the Arch Bishop confirmed the story and that the Ohakim had tendered and apology to the Owerri Diocese. In Mr. Ekpe’s recant, he said “Ohakim did not apologize this morning. He apologized on Monday. And he went there to tell him that if security men humiliated a Priest, he apologizes as the Governor. Is that not matured enough?”
The CPS went on to deny the allegation that Father Okorie was arrested by Ohakim boys.
Meanwhile, the Imo State residents have been steaming over the incident. As one Chief Ike Ibe noted to ukpakareports.com, “Ohakim brutalized Samuelson and jailed him. He vandalized my printing press and detailed 7 of my staff for a week. He humiliated Alex Obi and detained him. He brutalized Radio Nigeria staff. He is now dehumanizing God’s anointed.
